The Loooong Week…

August 29, 2007

This is one of my longest weeks in recent memory. I’m working 12.5 hour shifts at the warehouse (8:30am-9pm), and assisting my dad with his work at 7am (just today and tomorrow though), I’m getting out and seeing the band Monday and Wednesday evenings (like to write a review), and to top it off, I’m flying down to Mexico City on Friday to meet my extended family, specifically my 4th Cousin, Dorian.

I’d like to write a review of the show from Monday, talk about seeing my doctor-friend, Neil, on Friday, and how he explained death in a way I hadn’t thought of yet. I’d like to talk about this 2day drawing thing I heard about in the city and how I’d like to enter. There’s a bunch of things to talk about.

Here’s a list of the toiletries I currently need. I’d like to have them before I leave on Friday, but I’m not quite sure when I can get to it (maybe tomorrow…) I feel like there’s a lot more I need, but that’s all I have on the list right now.

  • Blades
  • Deodorant
  • Shaving Cream
  • Blistex
  • Powder
  • Advil Liquid Gels

Here’s a link for buying the products above. But I’ve never actually bought this stuff that way. I always try to wait til I’m in the discounter stores.

I like this…It’s nice to write about anything.

working hard to get my fill…

August 24, 2007

My apologies to everyone (Jeff & Heath), about not updating the blog this week. I’ve been cast to the outer perimeter of civilization, also known as South Kearny, NJ. Sout Kearny is a little inlet or bridge support (haven’t decided yet) that house the warehouse that houses the coats (yes, coats) that the company I work for makes. To be honest, this particular section of South Kearny has quite a bit of character for its seemingly lowly position in the industrial wasteland of North Jersey. I mean, there’s real Americana in this place. For example, I showed up on Wednesday to meet my boss, and where’d I find him? In the truckstop diner across the street. And I’m talking a REAL truckstop diner, with 18-wheelers parked all around. The place sit under the Pulaski Skyway and it’s a pretty neat site (I’ll get pictures).

On another note, the Pulaski Skyway is one of my most favorite causeways (or parkways or whatever you call those things)
in the United States of America. Its got a great burnt red look to it and its not your regular suspension bridge. It glides gracefully over the Meadowlands and puts you smoothly onto the other side. The views of the warehouses, factories, and ports make for plenty to see, and theres never much traffic. It’s even called a SKYWAY -how futuristically cool is that?! I just really like it. And if all that wasn’t enough, guess where my exit on the skyway occurs? On the left side! Pretty wild, huh.

Hahaha

My friend Steve showed me this the other day. It seems he tapes this show all the time. According to Heath, the host is from UCB.

I watch The Today Show pretty regularly, and this Anne Curry thing doesn’t surprise me. She always has these moments when she seems to get flustered….

Is anybody reading this?

August 21, 2007

I know it’s only been two weeks, but is anyone reading this at all? I read somewhere that 10 million blog pages are created a day. Do you realize how much brain diarreha is out there? Diareha…diarreaha….

diarrhea. Wow, that doesn’t even look right. Oh, I forgot the capital.

But truth be told, what can separate this blog from all the rest of the world?

Diarrhea. As often as I get this, it never ceases to make me wonder what I did to deserve it.

Every Man Dies. Not Every Man Truly Lives.

August 18, 2007

Everybody’s dying this week.

Merv Griffin, Brooke Astor, Phil Rizzuto, Elizabeth Murray, Max Roach

Their lives read like movies or epics. Just goes to show all the things you can do in life.

Here’s a few reasons why I’ll remember each of them:

Merv Griffin: Jeopardy –More importantly, the :30 sec song. The guy wrote it on his piano. Classic. And obviously the Seinfeld episode. Who’s named ‘Merv’ anymore?

Brook Astor: Her name is just synonymous with NY society in a time when ‘society’ is thinly defined. Nonetheless, she represented the best the ‘haves’ have to offer. Heath told me a funny quote she used to say when asked about their oodles of cash…‘Money is like manure. It should be spread around.’ Astor Place is where I get my haircut sometimes. Are there really no more Astors?

Phil Rizzuto: ‘Holy Cow!’ is all I can hear. But all I see is the talking keychain from Seinfeld. ‘Paradise By The Dashboard Lights’ –Heath also told me that he originally wasn’t happy about how his voiceover was used. I wish Phil could’ve been on YES. It would’ve been great to have great announcers for the Yanks on TV.

Elizabeth Murray: The 59th Street subway station. I love art in the subways. Her life is also pretty cool. I’m always interested by people who choose art for their lives despite the odds.

Max Roach
: What a cool name. It’s still so hip. M A X. R O A C H. That’s first. Second, that he sat in for the ‘Birth Of Cool’ sessions. Third, he was part of the Bebop movement. And if you can make a word like Bebop cool, then you’ve definitely done it right.

‘The Private Sea’ @ Club Midway

August 16, 2007

At the behest of Keith, I checked out The Private Sea, when they played here in town tonight at Club Midway. Keith had told me to find Roger Martinez -the lead vocalist and guitarist- and to say hello. They had been friendly when Roger was playing/living around NYC. The Private Sea is his band out of Philadelphia, and they’re touring around the East for their new album Prelude.

I’d only heard a bit of one song called ‘Lucifer’ before going because my internet continues to be SHIT since Jeff and I got rid of cable. I can hardly steal a connection, and when I do, it’s super slow if at all. But what I heard sounded interesting and I could hear a sound that would appeal to Keith.

Overall, I enjoyed the show. The music has a very dreamy quality, bit fantastical, bit storytelling feeling to it. The electric piano (Dino Lionetti) reminded me of a Doors melody when I first heard it, while the bass (Jason Miller) was heavy, sounding pretty nice. Their female lead, Mirian Vermeulen, had a Cardigans thing going on only cause she was tall and pretty, with short, cropped bleached hair, and her presence was a nice addition to the vocals led, for the most part, by Roger. He seems to write (I’m assuming he writes all these) a uniquely arranged song (check out ‘Arrow To The Sun’). There was one song they played early where the drums kept going slow, then fast, and I really dug it. Wish I knew what song it was, but gotta say that Joseph Idell’s drumming was enjoyed there (and overall).

They looked like a bunch of characters, but I guess that’s what it takes to make good music.

In the cafe…

August 8, 2007

SHIT! I’m sitting in Esperanta Cafe trying to figure out the best way to register a domain name. And once I register, how do I get shit into it? And can I pull my credit card out in a public place like this? Nobodies buying shit online here. They’re all doing important schoolwork and shit like that, right? Yeah, sure.

Fuck. I’m gonna have to buy another cup of coffee if I stay here much longer. Jeff (my roommate) and I disconnected our cable and internet to save a little cash. I don’t mind the social experiment of not having tv in NYC during the summer months, but there’s no internet either, so I’m out buying four dollar cups of joe to have a place to hit the internet. Yup, $3.96. Jeez.

Hellooo. Of course being out at the cafe’s makes for seeing some nice girls. I guess it’s not all bad.

Hello world!
